What, pray, is "denaturing"?

If you mean that it reduces some nutrients in food, so does any other
cooking method involving heat.  

As for environmental impact, a microwave uses less energy, making it an
environmentally friendly choice for some kinds of heating foodstuffs (and
they're wonderful for hot compresses if needed for pain relief).  To me,
it's a question of knowing appropriate uses and proper applications--don't
boil liquids in the microwave without agitation, etc.
