Re: matching spoons, CH dishes

We have bins of spoons, of forks, and of table knives and nothing matches
and that works just fine!

Once we got the CH kitchen ready, we called for everything everybody had
that they'd been "saving for the common house kitchen". So various people
set their stuff out on tables, a la rummage sale. A group of 3 CH kitchen
people made the rounds:

"OK, we should have 3 spatulas- which are the 3 best ones here?" Etc.
The result was that we chose only stuff that seemed useful, in
appropriate quantities, and then folks took their remaining stuff back
home, or to the local thrift shop.

We then listed what we wanted but didn't yet have. Some donations came
forth, and other items people found at yard sales and such. Only then did
we purchase things. The gatekeepers did decide things like not using
aluminum or Teflon pans.

We are very glad we chose to use Corelle plates and bowls. Mismatched
dishes are a nuisance; the Corelle stacks very neatly, is lightweight to
handle for dishwashing, and washes well. Most of the Corelle, even, came
from donations as many people had a few at home.
