It was posted by Fred the Cohousing-L list manager <fholson [at] cohousing.org> -------------------- FORWARDED MESSAGE FOLLOWS -------------------- A Few More Requests Regarding New Cohousing Book Hello fellow cohousers, Some of you may remember seeing a note on cohousing-L I posted late last year about the emerging Cohousing Anthology (anybody have a great title?) to be published in 2004 by Fulcrum Publishing. It was embellished by Cohousing web magicians and archived at: http://www.cohousing.org/news/daveWannBook.html Many writers and photographers stepped forward, and the collection is nearly complete! However, there are some noteworthy gaps, and I'm hoping readers of this note can pass the word on about remaining opportunities. 1. FIRST, THE BOOK NEEDS MORE GREAT PHOTOS -- STRONG COMPOSITIONS CAPABLE OF REMAINING GREAT IN BLACK & WHITE: In addition to shots that will accompany specific articles/chapters, I'd like to have pages devoted exclusively to things like: Common Houses Common meals Work Parties Meetings (I remember seeing a great shot of someone's barefoot at a meeting!) Kids playing People hanging out in public areas Great community landmarks (e.g., we have a great mission bell tower & bell at Harmony) Communities interacting with city councils or other outside-the-neighborhood entities Celebrations of all descriptions (Easter egg hunts, plays, solstice, Passover, whatever) Surprise me with any favorite shots that are goofy, poignant, eloquent, or otherwise must-includes. ALL GREAT SHOTS SHOWING DAILY LIFE IN COHOUSING WELCOME! I'd love to be able to receive community photo collections on CDs, saved as 300 dpi JPEGs or TIFs with a photo size of 4" by 3" Or I could also review, reimburse for expenses and return collections of great prints or slides. Or email me some shots at wanndavejr [at] cs.com, a few at a time. My mailing address is Dave Wann 1015 Cottonwood Circle Golden, CO 80401 2. THE BOOK NEEDS A FEW MORE GREAT WRITING/PHOTO CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THESE DEMOGRAPHIC GROUPS: DIVERSE ETHNIC GROUPS, KIDS, PEOPLE IN SOUTHERN-BASED COHOUSING COMMUNITIES IN STATES SUCH AS GA, NC, VA,AZ. Since we also have a need for a potentially humorous story about how consensus worked/did't work in a specific case, maybe there's a non-"white" person who lives in one of the above states who can tell a story about consensus. Failing that, maybe an Asian, African-American, Hispanic (or "other") cohouser could tell a story about how cohousing does or does not lend itself to diversity (in this case, not economic or age diversity, but specifically ethnic diversity). I'd love to have great artwork from kids and other cohousers, and I'd love to have another great story written by one of cohousing's younger citizens: Why it's fun and/or awful to live in cohousing. 3. I LOVE A FEW OF THE COVER SHOTS FOR 2 COHOUSING JOURNAL ISSUES: -- Summer, 1998 showing kids baking; -- Fall 2001, showing a boy standing on (his dad's ?) shoulders. Does anyone know where these pictures came from? Thanks for your interest and cooperation. This will be a lively book, of interest to anyone. Paul Ray, author of The Cultural Creatives, has agreed to write the foreword, and the general theme of the book will be Creating New Ways of Living. I'll let you know when publication happens (probably summer/fall 2004). Cheers, Dave Wann Harmony Village _______________________________________________ Cohousing-L mailing list Cohousing-L [at] cohousing.org Unsubscribe and other info: http://www.cohousing.org/cohousing-L
