If you are looking for bank financing, you might be dissapointed at what
they require.  So your minimum ecological standards will be fun to talk
about, but will not be the reality of what you build unless you can find a
finaceer who supports those goals. Off grid houses might be a challenge for
mortgages. Even obvious things, like composting toilets, can be mortgage
blockers.  If you do find a funding source that supports deep ecology, I
would encourage you to post to this list, and anywhere else, it is something
widely sought after and rarely found.

We are a forming ecovillage group near Cincinnati, Ohio on part of a long
established organic farm and conference center.  We wonder if and how other
groups decided on minimum ecological standards.  Although many of us say we
want to be as off the grid with our dwellings as possible, we know cost,
codes, and convention can be issues.  We are looking at the ecological
footprint information as one possible assessment.
