Dear List,
At Tierra Nueva, we have welcomed new babies by setting up delivered
dinners for the baby's family for two weeks after the birth. This
allows for the family to take some time off, knowing that dinners will
be delivered. It also slows the tide of visitors, because the dinner
bringers get a 5 minute visit/viewing. Often the onslaught of visitors
clamoring to see the new baby can be disruptive to the sleep deprived
new parents. If you don't bring a meal you don't get to visit until
after the family emerges back into the normal rhythms of community
life.

The ground rules are simple: 1. One person coordinates the sign-up
list, with family's food preferences/quantities listed. 2. When it is
your day to make a meal, deliver it at the specified time, and promise
not to stay more than 5 minutes! 3. The food deliverer takes the
previous day pans/trays back to the owner, or the dinner could be
delivered in containers for the new family to keep, to simplify the
return drill.

Oh Andrea,

How wonderful. At JP Cohousing in Boston, we will soon be blessed with our
first, two post-move in babies. I'm eagerly looking forward to your
replies.
When have you typically found people holding this celebration?

Subject: [C-L]_ Baby Welcoming Celebrations

We here at Nevada City Cohousing have the great joy of welcoming some new
born members into our community. Many years ago, I attended a Baby
Welcoming Celebration which I found quite enjoyable but can't remember all
the things we did at the celebration. One of the components which I do
recall was for the community members to write letters to the baby to be
opened on his/her 12th birthday.
