Dear friends,

We are pleased to announce that the first California tour of 2008 will take place on Saturday, February 2, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. in the East Bay, just across the Bay Bridge from San Francisco.

We have a wonderful variety of cohousing communities in this area, six of which we will visit on our day-long bus tour. SWAN'S MARKET Cohousing (where the tour originates and ends), the most urban cohousing community in the U. S, was constructed inside the existing walls of an historic market hall. PLEASANT HILL Cohousing is classic new-built Danish-style cohousing. DOYLE STREET Cohousing in Emeryville, the second cohousing community to be established in North America (1992), is a conversion of an elderly industrial building. TEMESCAL CREEK Cohousing is a prime example of retrofit cohousing with five existing duplexes clustered around a charming new-built common house. The nearby TEMESCAL COMMONS is another in-fill project with a renovated farmhouse and barn surrounded by three new buildings. And BERKELEY Cohousing is an eclectic mix....of old, brand new and renovated residences with the coziest common house in the country.

The cost of this tour is $95.00 per person. A boxed lunch and lots and lots of information about each community will be included. Your tour guide will be the inimitable Eris Weaver, a founding member of Frog Song Cohousing in Cotati. You may address questions to tours [at] cohousing.org or feel free to call Coho/US Tours Coordinator Joani Blank at 510-834-7399. Additional 2008 California tours will be held on May 3 (including three communities in Sonoma County), August 9 (East Bay Only), and October 25 (including two communities in Davis and one in Sacramento).
