Sharon,Please tell me about rentals. Where and how much. I just need to have a sense of what's possible. Thanks so much.
We have had very few rentals at Takoma Village. Only two units have been fully leased and we have a three year limit on that. Two people rent to roommates. They rent at market rates.
As has been discussed, rentals in cohousing is a problem because no one in cohousing has the extra funds to build rental housing. There is also a strong feeling about against having anyone outside the community investing in the community.
What would work better is if the community itself could build rental housing with the rent going to support the community -- to commonhouse expenses, for example.
Is there any listing at the Cohousing site on rentals? Sharon ---- Sharon Villines Takoma Village Cohousing,Washington DC http://www.takomavillage.org
