possible scam to watch out for

Our external email account often receives a message that people are interested in our community and it's often evident that this note was broadcast from the FIC website to all or many communities. I'm okay with that, since they may not be very particular geographically.

So, we just got a note from someone who says she and her spouse will be returning to the U.S. after several years of working (currently in Thailand), is interested in our community, would like to visit this summer, and hopes we'll have a house to rent by then. It was probably not directed just to us, since neither our community nor our location was mentioned, and it contained a number of misspellings.

One of my neighbors felt suspicious that it could be a scam, though it seemed normal to me, misspellings and all. Either way, I wanted to remind all good-hearted communitarians to never send money to someone who claims to want to rent or buy but for some reason or other, YOU need to send THEM some money. No, no, no, don't fall for that!

And now back to your normal program.
