I don't see a link between needing occasional privacy and wanting to be anonymous. If I craved anonymity I wouldn't have been drawn to cohousing, but I and many of my neighbors need our private respite times in addition to the wonderful community time. I think cohousing is great for shy people, we can have it both ways at different times. We see our backyard spaces as private and even have that written down somewhere.
