RoseWind (long built in Port Townsend WA) has always done accounting in house. Our treasurer keeps the books, dishes out reimbursements, collects assessments, does up a draft budget for us to start with each fall, based on the prior year's actuals. Our reserves and transactions against budget are visible to members online. Every 6 months the whole community gets a financial report at our monthly meeting. This has all gone very well. We have folks who keep the meal-money books, and who record who paid what for events held at the common house, but then the periodic deposits to those accounts are handed in to the treasurer to actually deposit in the bank. As I said, we have had no problems with this system. Maraiah Lynn Nadeau RoseWind Cohousing, Port Townsend WA where some seasonal rain has everything emerald green, in nice contrast to the red hawthorn tree berries, rose hips, and occasional colorful autumn leaves and where a great many Halloween costumes are still home-made!
