My neighborhood uses Nextdoor and I haven't seen any of the vigilantism 
or racial profiling mentioned, perhaps because this is a neighborhood 
with a lot of diversity.

It has been used to organize neighborhood yard sales, cleanup Saturdays, 
locate lost pets,  give invitations to a Biblical study group, etc. When 
I fell and tore my rotator cuff and needed a ride to a doctor's 
appointment I posted a request and had three offers within two hours. It 
is good for communicating about local things.
