Cohousing-L Mailing List: financing for special projects

I posted to the list recently asking if any West Coast communities with older 
buildings have retrofitted them to prepare for the seismic Big One. There was 
little response, but I also asked for input from communities anywhere about how 
they’ve won approval to cover the financing of large projects that have not 
been budgeted for.  So, to ask again… has your community managed to fund such a 
project through traditional or member loans, special assessments or some other 
mechanism?
