Hi,

We have done a Food Pref List. Will give more info on that below.

What may be more valuable is a nifty laminated sheet we have used, similar to
one used at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, across the River. I will type in
as good a version as possible: my dash/underline key is not working. I'm using
a virtual keyboard, dash works, but not underline. So, please imagine an
underline mark where one should be.

There is space for following info on these:
Item (i.e., name of food)
Next line:
this dish is:
--vegan -- Vegetarian --- low fat --gluten free --grain free - dairy free --
Dairy free -- sugar free
next section:
It contains
--Meat: (type of meat is filled in)
Fish ('' of fish "")
Dairy: (type of dairy)
---eggs -- black pepper --peanuts MSG -- Onion --garlic --tree
nuts -- hot spices
-- Grain (wheat oats, rye, barley, spelt, rice) -- sugar

Prepared by --------------------------

This information was typed up on paper, several to a page, laminated and cut
up. We use wipe off markers on them, so they can be re-used and re-used.
They work very well.

We do also have a list by person, of food preference, allergies, etc. Some
cooks see who is signed up to eat, and keep that in mind. Of course it is a
recursive process: cooks sometimes have a menu in mind first, before folks
even sign up.

Hope some of this is helpful,

Subject: [C-L]_ Dietary preferences/restrictions/aversions/allergies

As Gainesville CoHousing moves closer to breaking ground (yay!) and as we have
weekly pot-luck meals together at our meetings, we have become aware of the
fact that we have several vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free members.

How have other groups identified the dietary needs in their community so that
common meals work? We are considering some sort of questionnaire, but there are
SO many possible questions!
All ideas welcome!
