Subject: San Diego making strides toward innovative CoHousing

Hi All,

In the spirit of sharing insights learned from attending relevant seminars,
I am adding my notes here.

Just attended a most insightful conference in San Diego May 26, 2016

*The Inaugural symposium of the UC San Diego Center for Healthy Aging. *

www.AGING.UCSD.EDU

Here is what I learned

And

A few things I think that are impactful for successful CoHousing
communities.

Like you, my passion is healthy, happy, productive aging.

Here are some thoughts stimulated by what I heard at the conference, mixed
with my own desire to create a special place to "age in place".

I’m sharing these ideas in hopes you will add/modify them to start a
conversation/dialogue about creating innovative CoHousing in San Diego

I’d appreciate any help and/or introduction of like-minded people who can
empower our passion to build CoHousing in San Diego.

So here I go (please send back your thoughts to Stefania [at]
CapitalLinkUSA.com)

1. There is a biologically/scientific reason why humans are living
longer: as humans age we earn wisdom and the human specie’s survival
depends on the transfer of this wisdom to empower the next generation

2. While baby boomers are aging explosively now, we are not the biggest
generation: the millennials, born after +/-1980, take that rank.

3. Aging people are healthier, happier when we live in community where
we avoid isolation, remain active and are stimulated by purpose.

My action plan is motivated by the following:

4. If baby boomers have the wisdom, then the millennial have the energy:
this combo can be an unstoppable force for good in the world if we work
together.

5. It takes a community--- the big difference is that as we age, that
community needs to be reflected in our housing. It is empowering for older
people to maintain this kind of intellectual/healthy/happy community in a
“CoHousing.org” setting.

6. There are about 130 CoHousing communities in the USA, but NONE in San
Diego.

7. CoHousing is an intentional community of private dwellings clustered
around shared space. Each single private dwelling has traditional
amenities, including a private kitchen. Shared communal space feature a
common house, which includes a large kitchen and dining area where
neighbors share home cooked meals as often as they like, typically 3-5
times a week.

8. CoHousing Communites are personalized by the people who make them up.
Here is my vision of CoHousing in San Diego, and I would like you to join
my husband, Jim, and me, in making it a reality in San Diego

Our Starting Vision:

*The Global Citizen’s Co-Housing Community*

We’d like our Co-Housing Community to feel like:

· Enjoying community which nurtures happiness

· Embracing our power as members of the demographic burst

of baby boomers as Global Stewards of the planet

· Designing our next career as Elders of the society by

Sage-ing, not just Age-ing

· Leveraging a CoHousing Community composed of Active Adults age 30
through seniors– no children

· Urban location / easy public transportation

· Near nature

· Savoring gourmet international cuisine

· Rent and ownership options

*Who are Jim and Stefania?*

Married 30 years, we sold our condo on the 80th floor of the John Hancock
building in Chicago 2012. We went to China for 1 year, traveled to Asia and
returned to the US with refreshed global insights about the world,
economics, community and demographics. We noticed during our travels that
the people who gravitated to us --and we to them -- were in their 30;s
(compared to most of the friends we left in Chicago who were our age, 65,
or older).

We decided to embark on a formal research project to decide were/how to
live the second half of our life.

In 2014 we accidently discovered the concept of CoHousing by attending a
lecture in Vancouver Canada. Since then we have visited over 15 CoHousing
communities in 9 states and three countries and attended the national
CoHousing conference in 2015.

We are now seeking like-minded people who would like to create a CoHousing
community in San Diego.

We are presently engaged in a full time research project to make a Healthy,
Happy, Productive, “Age in Place” CoHousing Community a reality.

Does this sound like fun?!!

Would you like to explore possibilities further? We would like to invite
you to continue this conversation with us.
