about cohousing group visiting / observing 10 small apartments and
houses and IKEA mockups which is a great idea.

For many of us who have had a house with "auxilliary spaces" (
basement, attic, garage, yard, shed in yard) for years, shifting to a
small space seems like a major change. I try to convince myself that a
community workshop will not only suffice as an alternative to my shop
but maybe better.

Replacing the functionality of my "junk box" is the hardest to
imagine. My junk box is not literally a box but rather a collection of
things in various of those spaces listed above that are kept as raw
material for future projects. It sort of grows out of Amateur radio
hobby tradition where old electronics (particularly when they had more
discrete components in days past) could be the basis for cobbling
together a device to solve a new need. I can and do fix many things
using materials from my junk box.

(Of course the community workshop may more be organized so one can find
materials on hand which I can not always do...)

I should visit community tool library's (which also have workshops) more...

I was unfamiliar with the term, fortunately Wikipedia knew:
An inglenook or chimney corner, is a small recess that adjoins a
fireplace. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inglenook

Ann's use of "QUEL" in another message eludes me after consulting
Wikipedia and a web search.
