Re: rental models of co housing?

I very much want to avoid turning tenants into second class citizens. But at
first glance, it’s hard to reconcile the cohousing principles of
self-management, equivalence, participation, and accountability (?
Accountability? Is that one of our principles?) with the powers and authority
of an absentee landlord.

But, Does the landlord have to be absentee? In the coop model, one buys and
owns, not a dwelling premises bounded by drywall, but rather a stake in the
entire enterprise — plus, of course, certain rights and duties of occupancy.
The landlord is resident, and is everybody. Maybe this is as close to rentals
as cohousing will get.
