passeggiata celebration

We just had a successful social event inspired by the European tradition, in
some places, of a certain time when much of the population takes to the street
for a stroll, and to chat with their neighbors. In Italy, it’s called
“passeggiata”; in Yugoslavia, “corso”.

Our 23 single-family homes are spread over our 9-acre site. A map was drawn up
with a walking route that passed all the houses. We were assigned either the
clockwise or the counter-clockwise loop. At the appointed time, we were to set
out from our house, on foot, in the prescribed direction. As we encountered
each other en route, we were to stop and tell the other person something we
appreciated about them. It worked out that each of us encountered, in turn,
almost everyone else. if the walking was a problem for someone, they could just
wait by their house and share with walkers as they passed by.

In such pairs we shared appreciations, ranging from humorous to profound. All
positive! It was fun and a good morale booster.
