Hi Patricia. Here at Cascadia Commons in Portland, OR we started eating
bring your own plate dinners together twice a week last summer. We ate
outside until the weather pushed us indoors. The group size varies, but the
talk is always lively and fun. No one has contracted covid from these
gatherings. There has been some pushback, but we have persisted as it is
self-selected. No one cooks for others and we take our own dirty dishes
home, so no clean up either. It has been a wonderful bright spot for me,
being newly single.
We do have a common meal after our monthly work parties as well. That is
sometimes partly cooked/assembled in the common house kitchen, or
preparation is done in a private residence. Again, no covid has been passed.
We are also expanding our use of the common house. Some committee meetings
are being held in person. There have been play dates for children in the
playroom and dining room areas. We have a mask mandate when one is not
eating. We briefly had an art class until omicron scared folks into
cancelling. Some folks meet to play games or cards.
I hope you can find a way to bring your community back together again. It's
been quite a challenge here with some who not only choose to close
themselves off from others, but also ask the rest of us to do so.
Donna
