We don't use sociocracy, but we do delegate a good deal of decision-making to committees. If community members object to a decision that a committee has publicized its intention to make, any three households can express an opinion that this decision needs to be made at the plenary level, leading to various possible paths forward for that issue. (The committee can appeal that opinion, too.) This kind of appeal against a proposed committee decision has been very rarely invoked, though it did occur during a period when 3 households had serious disagreements with two committees. We adopted it to balance the risk of a rogue or unresponsive committee against the risk of a single community member who is determined to be a crank about one or more issues and impede committees that are trying to get community business done in a reasonable way.
