Poverty, By America

Just FYI — some recent thoughts based on email threads in this list.

For those of you reading CASTE, and for everyone NOT reading Isabel Wilkerson’s
work, you might want to check out this new book by Matthew Desmond: Poverty,
By America. The link below is a review of the book.

What struck me reading the review is how much poverty is one of the pillars we
erected and continue to support to keep our economic engine chugging along.
Dovetails w/ Isabel Wilkerson’s work.

It’s disheartening to see the tangled web we weave … everything … everywhere …
all at once … (borrowing from greater and more creative minds than mine).

In the late ‘60s early ‘70s I read How The Other Half Lives and Tally’s Corner.
Both seminal works at the time. Now, 50+ years later, it’s How the Other
Two-thirds Live and Tally’s Corner was demolished for a luxury condo.

And what has cohousing to do w/ all of this? Just a thought ...
