I would write Ezra Klien too… he has now given short shrift to cohousing on two
of his podcast.

That said, I really appreciate this guest’s analysis of how crazy our modern
way of living in America is… the isolated small nuclear family (even with two
parents and good incomes) is the radical approach….not living in community.

I listened to the above podcast as the link was provided in a recent email
from this list-serve. Sadly, although the author interviewed described eco
villages, cohousing only was mentioned as something that existed in
Denmark! And nothing about cohousing here in the US. In Ezra's prior
podcast on loneliness and how communal living might be an antidote,
cohousing got a short mention.

Everyone should send her an email and point out that since her interest in the
“everyday” aspect of utopian communities that cohousing is the most “everyday”
you can get since it is more diverse than communities based on belief systems
or being self-sustaining (sharing income, etc.). This is her website.

For people who have experience living in a kibbutz, cohousing appears and in
many ways is a middle-class fantasy more like building your own condominium and
filling it with your friends. It can easily be dismissed as a restricted
neighborhood — millionaires only.
