Cohousing-L Mailing List: how to handle "donations"

I'm wondering if other communities might have some advice on how to fairly
and efficiently handle "donations,"  things like used pieces of furniture
which one member is convinced will fit perfectly with the decor in your
commons room, or worse, anonymously deposited in one of your public spaces?
We have a policy here about our membership having to approve any donations,
but that seems time-consuming at a board meeting for a small item like a
table. How does your community handle these instances?
