Hi, Ceil + Casa Verde Neighbors, We will be interested in following this, as we will be replacing our hand-me-down gas stove. We originally were give a big beautiful professional/commercial stove. Was loving cleaned—— then we learned that if we wanted to install it, we would become a commercial kitchen and require pricey fire mitigation equipment. Something you may want to check with you Building/Fire Dept. and include in your decision making. Locally, I have read person after person unable to find someone to repair two specific brands. You probably know this: something else to ascertain: having a local repair person available for your choice. Unfortunately the two that have no local repair folks here are Samsung and LG. Unfortunate as they are a fairly large share of the market. We just returned from seeing cousins who bought all their appliances from, I think, LG, and are very unhappy with them. This is problematic for me as my electric wall oven will need replacing, and those brands have v good features. Glad to see that Joan is having a very different experience w their stove! We do have someone championing induction cooking tops, and professional cooks do seem to like. them. Again, looking forward to input from other communities, Ruth Cantines Island, Saugerties, Hudson Valley We are looking for a family for a family sized house. Our neighbor is moving from their spacious four bedroom house w full basement! Their daughter is readying it , please be in touch if interested or if you know a family seeking community in the beautiful very alive Hudson Valley! heidinys [at] earthlink.net (845)246-8601 txt (845) 430-4848 PS: I have an intermittent e-mail glitch. We're shopping for a 36" range for our Common House Kitchen, and we'd love to have input from other communities about what brand and type have worked for you. We purchased our range used five years ago, with gas burners and a convection oven ( commercial quality), which is not working reliably enough. many repairs have not solved its problems (not holding heat makes it undpendable). What about your range? Do you use gas or electric or gas and electric? Did you purchase a commercial stove? What size? What brand? Cost? What has your experience been? Information about the size of your community and the scope of your meals program would be helpful. Thanks so much for your help. I'm not home but I think it is LG, gas, 5 burner, 1 oven. John and I bought it 12 years ago. It's been fantastic. Heats quickly. Do you use gas or electric or gas and electric? Gas. I prefer gas. I HATE electric. In the cohousing in Iowa City they use induction stoves. Not sure what they have in their common house. Did you purchase a commercial stove? What size? What brand? Cost? Will look up when I get home. Not sure if it is commercial. ****For the Common HOuse, we should purchase a commercial stove or a high end model like Viking or Thermador (my son has this brand). It should be the same size as the one that is in the kitchen now, not smaller. We have some really big pots and baking sheets.* Meals are so critical to a vibrant community. This stove has not been reliable for years. Did we buy a low ball model? What has your experience been? Excellent.
