Hi Ceil:
I have lived at Cascadia Commons in Portland since 2001, shortly after it
opened. We are a community of 26 households with a common house of about 3000
sq feet. In 2018, we upgraded to a "Professional DCS cook top", 36 inch wide.
We stayed with gas and had a power outage that lasted 6 days in 2024 and were
ever so glad to gather in our CH to cook and keep somewhat warm as many
households have gone all electric.
We have had no repairs since 2018. The cook top has 6 burners, one simmer and 2
high capacity especially good for boiling water for large pots of pasta. We
paid $2900 for it. Since covid, our meal plan is slowly recovering and we have
weekly meals attended by about 20 people plus work party meal and occasional
private parties plus potlucks.
We have 2 separate wall ovens for baking. Hope this helps. Let us know what you
decide.

Casa Verde Commons is a community of 34 households in Colorado Springs, CO,
now 23 years old.

We're shopping for a 36" range for our Common House Kitchen, and we'd love
to have input from other communities about what brand and type have worked
for you.

We purchased our range used five years ago, with gas burners and a
convection oven ( commercial quality), which is not working reliably
enough. many repairs have not solved its problems (not holding heat makes
it undpendable).

What about your range?  Do you use gas or electric or gas and electric?
Did you purchase a commercial stove?  What size?  What brand? Cost?  What
has your experience been?

Information about the size of your community and the scope of your meals
program would be helpful.

Thanks so much for your help.
