Part of retaining members includes making everyone feel welcome and part of the community. This can include beginning your cohousing experience before you have a site. At EcoVillage at Ithaca, there is "co-dining" even though there are no homes or common house. People sent around a sign- up sheet, made small groups (3 or for families) and have meals at each others houses once a week. Unfortunately, I'm still living in NJ, and somebody's gotta be an awfully good cook to get me to drive the 4 hrs up there for a meal, but the others all seem to love it. We're also considering a "co-subscribing" group, for people to share magazines, journals, etc. and save a little money, too. Ray Gasser, Maplewood, NJ raygasser [at] delphi.com
