Stephanie Fassnacht Porchlight Cohousing fassnach [at] ssc.wisc.edu is the author of this message but due to a listserv problem it was posted by the COHOUSING-L sysop. Rob has posted several wonderful examples of items that are co-owned by members of Sharingwood, and the benefits that co-ownership can have both within and outside of the community. One trouble that I've observed with co-ownership, however, is that often each co-owner assumes that one of the other co-owners is responsible for maintenance of the co-owned item, with the end result that no one maintains it until pretty late in the game. I'd be curious to hear what kind of arrangements Sharingwood (and other communities too) have for maintenance of co-owned things.
