   Speaking for myself alone, I'd say that there's something fundamentally
   misconceived  about households in cohousing having their own laundry
   machines. They don't get it. 

I don't think it's this black and white. Our two adult, two child household
seems to generate a staggering amount of laundry (although it's less now
that both children are more-or-less toilet trained). My tolerance for
relatively distant laundry facilities was much higher when I was just
processing laundry for myself. Our washer and dryer are currently on the
second floor (where all the bedrooms are), and it's amazingly convenient.
