Rob Sandelin asked: >I am looking for any community design articles or books which would be >useful for cohousing site design ideas or concepts. I already have the >cohousing book. Here's a short list; some of these speak to landscape design generally, some are more philosophical in nature. The last one is especially for you, Rob: Thayer, R.L. 1993. Gray World, Green Heart: Technology, Nature, and sustainability in the Landscape. John Wiley & Sons. (deals with site planning specifically and has an excellent bibliography) McHarg, Ian L. 1969. Design With Nature. Doubleday/Natural History Press. (there are more recent editions) Hough, M. 1984. City Form and Natural Process. New York. Van Nostrand Reinhold. Hough, M. 1990. Out of Place--Restoring Identity to the Regional Landscape. New Haven, Yale. IUCN/UNEP/WWF. 1991. Caring for the Earth--Strategy for Sustainable Living. Gland, Switzerland. Jackson, W., W. Berry, and B. Coleman, eds. 1984. Meeting the Expectations of the Land. San Francisco. North Point Press. Milbrath, L. 1989. Envisioning a Sustainable Society. Albany, New York. State University of New York Press. Naess, A., and D. Rothenberg. 1989. Ecology community and Lifestyle. Yew York. Cambridge University Press. Siegal, L. and J. Markoff. 1985. The High Cost of High Tech--The Dark Side of the Chip. New York. Harper and Row. I cribbed most of these refs from a friend's landscape architecture course syllabus, but I've at least skimmed most of them. Lots of very interesting stuff, usefull especially for those groups who have large sites. David Hungerford, Muir Commons.
