Count me in the radiant floor heating camp (if any active heating system is to be used). I'm neither an architect or developer but my engineering background made me wince when I read of the proposed ceiling system. My feeling is that working against nature is bound to be costly; trying to get heat to go down is working against nature instead of with. Nothing beats data though. Have you lived for a winter in a situation such as the one you describe? If it works I'm amazed, if it works at a price you can afford I'm astounded. I don't want to seem too commercial, but I suggest you call Real Goods (800.762-7325) and ask for help. They seem very sharp and very committed to using the appropriate technologies. [Unpaid plug. I am a subsriber/member of their "Hard Corps," which gets me a catalog and a minimal discount, but I was too dumb to buy stock at the offering price. I just like what they're doing.] They will probably be glad to work with your designer/architect or at least just give straightforward information on products and their experiences.
