There must be an awful lot we could learn from Denmark on this point. My impression from Chuck Durrett's recent talks is that there are cohousing communities all over the map there - pretty much every new development gets at least one cohousing community as part of it. My impression is that they are still all resident designed? So the process must still be fairly lengthy. Chuck did also say that banks there now compete to finance cohousing, and the government encourages it. Their planning departments must all be very familiar and comfortable with it. Those things would all make a tremendous difference here. But I imagine they still must have to put in a great deal of time deciding what colour the common house carpet is, and all those other details. Anybody actually know? It's a terrible pity we don't have some Danes writing for this list. Stuart. N St. Cohousing stanifor [at] cs.ucdavis.edu
