Hi,
Can't say who said this, but...

=> ...wood as a heating backup & esthetic nicety, while
=>the rest of us can have a good chance of being able to
=>safely breathe the air.

I do wonder sometimes about off-hand comments, which
seem to imply simple dichotomies, such as wood fuel/dirty
air versus nuclear/clean air (...please, don't make me
sorry I said that...) What I do want to say, is, if we
want clean air, and we have problems with wood fuel or
any other non-renewable fuel, or any other fuel related
matter, then we need to stop the diversionary debates and
move on to implement the positive. proven renewable
energy solutions. (...and if I might go off the deep end
here: the existing gas and electric utilities should be
providing this nonpolluting heat, light, and power to
YOUR home through both centralized wind and biogas
plants, plus dispersed DSM and Integrated Resource
Planning. ...but don't say this too loudly yet, the
regulator's and the DPU commissioner's heads will
explode!)

Domestic wood fuel in a super-insulated, solar house
may make sense, if only because the backup system is so
little used! (One welcome problem in the best new homes
today is in trying to find central oil and gas fired
furnaces and boilers that are appropriately sized, that
is, small enough.)

          Ross
