Hello All,

I'd like to introduce myself. I'm Don Maddox of Santa Rosa, Ca. I'm
single with an 18 year old daughter who lives with me presently but
will be leaving home soon. I have in recent years been involved in
community with several groups but do not presently live in cohousing
or other community oriented housing. I have been reading cohousing-l and
requesting information about cohousing for the past several months and
really appreciate this list. Much of the information I have learned
about cohousing has come from this list and I thank you all for that.
Your information may lead to a dramatic positive change in my life
in the near future. I hope to return the favor by providing
information to others on this list as I become more knowledgeable on the
subject. In the meantime I have more questions and requests for help.

I'm strongly involved in an effort to establish new cohousing on
Acacia Lane in Santa Rosa, Ca. We're meeting Saturday and Sunday the
19th and 20th for an organizational workshop. After the weekend we
should have a good idea whether we have the number of people required
to meet our commitment of a down payment on the land by a deadline of
the middle of December.

In the meantime I want to pursue a dream of mine. That is to
incorporate ecohousing concepts into the construction of this
cohousing project. I have in mind some or all of the following:

* Passive solar heating and cooling
* Extra insulation in the exterior walls
* Solar hot water backed up with on-demand hot water heaters
* Efficient lighting
* Efficient refrigeration
* Community gardening, composting, and recycling

Are there others of you on the list that have similar features in your
sites?

Is there any grant money, rebates, or tax incentives available to help
offset the initial higher cost of this type of construction on the
scale we are talking about, 26 homes on 3.3 acres? If so can you provide
the names of the organizations and contacts providing the incentives?

I want to discuss the above with our group members and need
information soon for we will be in the planning stage soon.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

.Don
