Sharingwood created a pet policy with the goals of:  Protecting the 
native wildlife, allowing people to have and enjoy pets, allow people 
not to be infringed upon by others pets.  The basic concepts outlined 
above came after 6 months of frustrating meetings where pet owners and 
wildlife advocates held long, emotional and sort of silly arguments.  
We did a classic goof and got mired in the details before really 
working on the concepts. We finally stepped back and went up to the 
concept level, got agreement there, then the specifics fell more or 
less easily (one meeting) into place.

Somewhere in archive land I posted about the details before so if you 
are interested and don't have access to all my brilliant prose from 
yesteryear :-),  I can send you individually the specifics of our pet policy.
