With a few exceptions, (notably Frank Lloyd Wrights' Broadacre City,) most
architects have always tried to rein the automobile and encourage pedestrian
communities. After all, human needs are assumed to be paramount.

For example, in 1985, counter to the anti-porch trend, architects Daniel
Soloman and John Goldman designed 53 houses, each of which has a traditional
front porch, for a successful project in Omaha, Nebraska.

The fact is that architects have no clout compared to builders and bankers to
influence suburban "master planned" tract developments. And architects are
involved in only a very small percentage of residential design in the U S.
