Community without walls

Having just returned from a week long droolfest visiting some cohousing
communities in Seattle my husband Gary and I were very eager to pass on our
impressions of cohousing in action. The most valuable thing we walked away
with was something Joe Blasi said to us at Sharingwood- the people are
really what its about. So despite the fact that most of our group meetings
are so task driven- site discussion, flyer dispersal, follow up calls- we
talked about doing more relationship work with our 4 committed households,
and even our associate members. Even at our first meeting after we returned
from our trip we dealt with some anger going at the meeting. Why do I think
this is interesting? Well, I'm sitting here in my almost completly boarded
up, supply heavy house waiting for Hurricane Erin to pass by and the calls
back and forth between the entire group have been amazing. Sure, we all think
it would be much more fun to hole up in our hurricane proof common house and
sing Koombaya (sp?), but the love won't be greater than what I feel right
now.

Yes, South Florida may be a wasteland, that's why its ripe for cohousing.
Just like at Disneyland- The people are the ride.
