To take what Buzz said on a bit more of a tangent: When we simply say, "it's a gorgeous day today!" or "isn't the power of that storm amazing!" we are acknowledging the wonder and beauty of our specific place in the Universe. The need to connect to each other on deeper levels and to connect to the sacred uniqueness of the land we live on is a basic facet of spirituality, though we don't all identify it so. When a community begins as an architectural project, it may seem far fetched to think it might evolve its own spiritual practices. But many people embellish or create their own wedding ceremonies and birthdays, right? I think over time people will celebrate all of life's transitions and passages and the seasons of nature (once again). Residents who already have other religious/metaphysical beliefs can and will keep them (or not) in addition to the universal celebration of connectedness. A coho group should be able to celebrate their connection to the planet and each other without offending anyone except the most insular or close minded. I know the above probably isn't hyper-original. I've probably said something similar in different words before. Gee, I *hope* some of the words were different this time! Sorry to miss meeting coho-L folks at the coho conference. That weekend I was finishing a move to a new house which exhausted me. Even tho I live in Boulder, all I went to was a breakfast and a couple hours of the Sat. dance. Mike M
