Willie Schreurs WILLIE [at] LINDEN.FORTNET.ORG is the author of the message below but due to a listserv problem it was posted by the COHOUSING-L sysop (Fred). **************** FORWARDED MESSAGE FOLLOWS ********************* I'm sending this message on behalf of a member of our community (Greyrock Commons) who has helped organize a child-care co-op and is wondering about the possibilities of expanding the concept after we move in. Her query: "Have any cohousing communities tried bartering systems of any sort? Even though we haven't yet moved in (we are still building) several families from our community have been participating in a child-care co-op for about four months. We use a bartering system that works very well for us and would like to expand the system to include non-child-care services (e.g. house- or pet-sitting). We would like to know if any other cohousing communities have tried anything like this and if you have any advice for us. Pitfalls? Suggestions?" The system as I understand it (it's me (Willie) again) involves the use of a fixed number of old business cards with time units written on them. These are traded as services are rendered; there are various rules regarding time equivalencies, etc. Please respond to me by email, or to the list if you think this is of general interest. I could summarize any replies and post them to the list if anyone wants.
