MW> Tim, I saw your post in COHOUSING-L Digest 7 and was curious if MW> you are part of a Durango CO coho group? If so give me a reply MW> so I can check status. Thanks. Well, no. Not quite as people on this list seem to describe Coho. There is a Coho group here (in Durango), but our group is a bit different. It seems that most Cohos are based on some philosophical lifestyle in which all the members agree to participate in. In our case, we are a group of people who are working with a non- profit housing agency using federal funds to develop a mobile home cooperative. Cooperatives are a specific type of ownership in which a corporation is formed and the members hold a share that entitles them to a specific unit. The title to the property is held by the corporation. The only thing our members have in common is a need for affordable housing. However, many of the members, through the experience of putting this project together are beginning to realize they have a need to participate in the community we are creating. It is our hope that much of the philosophical principals of "co-housing" will become a part of our project. Please note that most cooperative housing is actually co-housing in its reliance on the participation of its members in running and governing the community, and that many existing co-housing projects use a cooperative ownership structure. tim.heuser [at] cdis.com * RM 1.3 02908 * "Graphic Artist seeks Boss with vision impairment." --- Presentation of the preceding message was made possible by Coyote's Den BBS Coyote's Den Information System.
