Well, here's another question about this getting-to-be-quite-famous-maybe
article I'm writing. This from the editor now that I've
turned it in. What I think I know already is that cohousing is certainly
friendly to whatever sexual orientation, that there isn't
any discrimination re lesbian/gay or whatever, but I suppose I don't have any
real data to back that up. Can anyone help? The
other thing that I had meant to include is that our experienc here is that
older single woman seem to be the easiest bunch to
"recruit," although I don't like that word. Is thaty true elsewhere?
Please =-=== help me answer the editors questions and this time, as she
says, I do need to know , say by the evening of
7/4 so I can respond to her on Friday.
        Thanks...
Have I mentioned that with the miniscule amount I;m getting paid for
this, it is now done to about 6 cents an hour... just
so no one has the idea that I am growing rich through your most generous
comments!

Donna--

I finally got a chance to read the article. You did a great job. There is
however one thing that I think is missing--at least, for Sojourner's
audience. You never really talk about gender. I wonder about the following?

What are the gender dynamics in cohousing groups? Are there any tensions
particular to male/female dynamics? Is work divided along traditional
gender lines or not? Do you find women doing the cooking and child care in
cooperative situations, men doing the landscaping? Do you find that men
tend to dominate discussions about building, etc.?

I also wonder, since we have an audience that is 60 percent lesbian, are
there any all women's cohousing groups? Are there any gay cohousing groups?
And in the groups that you know of, are there significant numbers of gays
and lesbians? Are most people involved in cohousing in traditional
families; i.e., mother, father, children? I, for one, haven't seen very
many communities that are inclusive across lines of sexual orientation.

What do you think? Could you add a some stuff in the diversity section
about these issues? I have a few suggestions for paragraphs that could be
left out here, to make some room. I also think the diversity section and
affordability could be combined, as it seems like cost is one of the
factors limiting diversity.

I'll be here Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, and possibly on
Friday. You can reach me at home at 617-661-9873, or kakahn [at] aol.com. We
have till the end of next week to complete the revisions.

Thanks,

Karen
