We of Heathcote Community in Freeland, MD are also interested in improving
recruitment. Jan, would you be willing to summarize some of the good ideas
you read about in Co-housing Magazine?

In the past we have primarily found new members through personal contacts,
although our most recent member found us thru th eCommmunities Directory,
published by FIC. FIC also publishes Communities Magazine and provides
a free on-line service that lists community openings (http://www.ic.org).
We have also posted fliers at local health food stores and publish a
quarterly newsletter. We hold events at Heathcote that bring visitors such
as permaculture education events and monthly sing-alongs. We are currently
developing a "speakers bureau" -- a group of community members who will
seek out opportunities to lecture to local groups that share similar
interests. all of these things get our name out there and generate
visitors, but so far they haven't generated any new members.

What strategies did the first residential group at EVI find effective?
