When I am asked about this thing called "cohousing" I often reply by saying:

They are resident planned neighborhoods similar to townhome and
condominimum projects in legal structure and general layout, except that
they encourage interaction among neighbors through the inclusion of
extensive common facilities and involvement in the creation of the
community.
