I don't want to get off topic here but just a reminder.  The issue of use of
fossil fuels is not just cost, but impacts on the environment. Greenhouse
effect, air pollution, etc, - all that gas/oil goes somewhere, and lots of it
winds up in places where the biosphere has not evolved to recycle it. Those
"life=cycle" costs are not (now) factored in, but they are there. There are
lots of reasons to reduce use.
