One technique that works well is to develope a team of facilitators, and when its not your turn to facilitate you record and observe the group in process. This gets several sets of trained eyes on each meeting and makes debriefing work better. It is especially useful to take behavioral notes. See the current issue of communities magazine for an article on dealing with difficult behaviors in meetings which details the steps of this.
