I just want to underscore something in this thread- someone (I'm not sure who) mentioned the fact that often (usually) the person who draws the plans is not the "architect". In my experience, once in the "feasibility study" stage and one in the townhome planning stage, we had situations where the "architect(s)" came and listened to us, worked with us, and then went away and the plans that came back had very little to do with what we'd said (1st case, drawn by an intern, 2nd I'm not sure). Our development consultant and one of our members (former architect) actually did a lot of the design. Just a caution to pay attention to the communication between the group and the actual person(s) doing the plans.
