I shared my car with a friend/coworker of mine on an as-needed basis. I rented it to him for the going federal government auto wear and tear reimbursement rate...at the time I think it was .24 per mile. It's higher now. I figured that covered everything else. I continued to carry the insurance and handle all repairs. The other party would wash it sometimes. Collecting the money was a hassle sometimes. My goal was to keep it simple. Verbal agreement only. Lived in San Francisco at the time. I would do it again, but next time make sure I didn't need to remind the "renter" to pay me.
