I just had a conversation with my insurance person about this very topic.
With our carrier, who is a smaller, local firm, you can have up to 4 adults
listed on regular car insurance without having to get a special policy. The
only hitch is that your insurance cost is determined by the highest risk
holder, thus if one of the people on the insurance has too many tickets,
accidents, or other risk areas, the whole policy rate is set by that risk
level. If all the people are in the same, low risk pool, then you get the
best rates.

More than 4 adults requires a special insurance rider at extra cost.
Corporate/business insurance is also available, it costs almost twice as
much as regular insurance but is not rated at the highest risk liability, so
if you had a couple teens using the car, your rates might be close to
corporate insurance anyway....

My agent told me that each carrier would have different rules about how to
put people on your insurance and what effect it has on rates so your best
bet is to talk with your particular agent about adding people to your
insurance, Then ask about corporate insurance.

Subject: Vehicle Sharing

Hello folks,
I am a member of Wholelife Housing in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Our
group is in the site search stage. Myself and another household are
contemplating doing a vehicle share. The vehicle, a Westfalia, is owned
by the other household. I am interested in hearing about other peoples
experiences with vehicle shares and information around insurance,
maintenance, repairs etc.

Cheers,
Patty Nowlin
