Greetings. In response to Fred's query about a Philadelphia cohousing project, as well as a post several weeks ago (which I meant to respond to, but life has been very full . . .): There is currently no Philadelphia area cohousing project anywhere near the stage of buying land. Many projects have come and gone in this area, due to multiple factors. There is a group of perhaps a dozen interested persons, but they are spread out all over the Delaware Valley (which folks around here consider to be a pretty big area--although folks in the West might disagree). I do my best to respond to e-mails and connect people with each other, although I'm not currently seeking to be part of any project in the near-to-mid future. The most recent projects that fell apart included one near West Chester (which I had some high hopes for) and another in NW Phila./Montgomery Co. (which had good energy, but fell apart when a member of its burning soul leadership died). A new group has formed, and has had as many as twenty households present at early-stage meetings. They are looking in the Phoenixville (Montgomery Co.) area and are seeking to mix a group of elders with young families. If anyone might be interested in knowing more about them, I'd be happy to put you in touch. There is also the Hundredfold project, near Gettysburg, that has been active on Coho-L recently. They are about a 2.5 hour drive from Philadelphia. And, if anyone would be interested in "co-yarding" in the very interesting and friendly Phila. neighborhood of Powelton Village, the house next door to ours is on the market at a very reasonable price! -- Blaise Tobia tobiabj [at] drexel.edu
