Stacia,
The Whole Village group<www.wholevillage.org> held two very successful
retreats, the first in November 1998 and the second in November 1999. This
was a chance for members to get to know each other better and an
opportunity for us to refine our Founding Principles and Vision
Statement. You can see the results on our web site.

The whole process was started by a mandate group that looked at the work of
other groups and provided a framework for discussion. We alternated
sessions at the retreat between the whole group and smaller groups,
soliciting everyone's opinions. By then selecting the common elements that
emerged and simplifying the language, we ended up with results that
everyone could claim ownership to.

I do not know if all cohousing groups are the same, but Whole Villagers
seem to really like reinventing the wheel, doing everything from scratch
and taking the long way around. But we seem to be progressing
anyway! Good luck.
