Our main motivation was to have the radiant heat imbedded in them. But
almost as important to most of us was being free from carpet - synthetic,
formaldehyde, dust, bugs, allergens, hard to clean, etc. Of course there is
always wood and other floor coverings too - but the concrete looks great and
as I've said easy to clean. If you can afford the fancy stain job - they can
be gorgeous! I've seen many that are much prettier than tile even.

Regarding filling the cracks. They dont' bother me much - an occassional
vacuuming cleans them out - and as my neighbor says, "they are great cuz they
collect the dirt from the rest of the floor!" But, my uncle who is in the
tile business has a product that is an epoxy-grout (I think) that will have
some give as the floor shifts. He is going to install it in my cracks as a
gift. I'll let you know how it comes out.
