Hi everyone

Coming up in May are a series of 3 exciting, interactive workshops on all aspects of the design and development of urban and rural eco-villages, presented by the Gaia Foundation and held at City Farm in East Perth. This is an opportunity to really gain an understanding of what is involved in truly sustainable lifesytles at the suburban level. These workshops have been designed to activate local discussion and increased implementation of ecovillages, locally.

For details see the website www.geocities.com/gaiawest2000/

The main presenter will be Max Lindegger who designed and implemented Crystal Waters near Maleny and Kookaburra Park near Bundaberg, as well as many others around the world. He was the founder of the Global Eco-village Network and is well versed in the holistic design of eco-villages: from community glue and cultural dynamics, site suitability, building design and housing layout, to food and energy produ! ! ction, waste treatment, micro-enterprise development, legal and financial structures etc. The relatedness of all of these aspects will be an important part of the workshops.

Local guest speakers will talk about what is being locally applied, including Peter Newman from Murdoch University, Peter Driscoll, a town planner from Landvision, and Sandra Krempl, the director of Community Arts Network.

There will be a 2 day course for town planners, council representatives, community development workers and professional consultants from Thursday 18th to Friday 19th May.

A 2 day workshop will be held for those generally interested in ecovillages, their design and establishment from Saturday 20th to 21st May.

Then there will be a 5 day workshop including a field trip and design exercise for those who are interested in some more detail. This will be Tuesday 23rd to Saturday 27th May.

A party will be! ! held on the Saturday evening for all who have attended, presented and organised the workshops and this will be a great networking and socialising event.

These workshops are essentially applicable to everyone, as we move into more sustainable lifestyle choices, either retrofitting our own homes, becoming more active community members, or those fortunate to be a part of an eco-village development. There has been a noticeable increase in the number of eco-villages appearing in the Perth metro area and rural WA. This is an invitation to learn more about how we can personally and collectively develop more aesthetic, functional and sustainable communities for ourselves.

The workshops have been consciously made affordable and any profits will be channelled back into furthering eco-village development within the region.

Please pass the word and this email on to many others, whether you think they may be interested or not.

If anyone would like to find o! ! ut more by phone, call Vivienne on 9470 5334

warm regards

Melinda Stephen
Ph: 9331 8408

Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
